Here’s how - step by step

Step 1: Hands off! Don’t rub face paint under any circumstances – otherwise you’ll end up forcing the paint deeper into the fibers.

Step 2: Pre-treat the stain by dampening it with a degreasing stain remover and soaking the garment for at least five minutes.

Step 3: Wash the garment according to the washing instructions on the label, either in the washing machine or by hand.

Done! Check the results. If the stain is still there, repeat steps 2 and 3.

Expert tip: If you don’t have any stain remover at hand, high-proof, clear alcohol can work wonders. But don’t forget to check color fastness before applying

Removing face paint stains: Immediate action

Theater make-up and face paint are specially designed to survive even the craziest of costume parties. There’s a reason why “sweat-resistant” and “long-lasting” are written proudly on the package. Children, in particular, like to test the boundaries when it comes to these qualities. Sweaty from playing, they sometimes touch their faces to wipe something off or push a strand of hair aside. If the face paint then gets on their hands, it’s only a matter of time before it ends up on their t-shirt or skirt.

So, it’s understandable that you panic at first when you discover traces of black face paint on your daughter’s white fairy costume. How is it possible to remove face paint from clothes when it takes a plenty of effort to even remove it from your face?

Removing face paint stains: Making the costume look good as new for next year

When you arrive home, you should continue trying the face paint stain removal, if possible, so that the paint doesn’t seep deeper into the fibers. Don’t worry, with the right handling and correct products the stains will be gone in a flash – and without damaging the clothes. So you can quickly get back to enjoying the beautiful things in life again and start planning your next celebration.

Pre-treatment

For stains that are difficult to remove, such as face paint, wetting them with a small amount of detergent or stain remover before machine washing can loosen the stain in no time. Use Persil® Power-Liquid® Original scent detergent, which is suitable for white and colored garments, or Persil® Power-Liquid® Sensitive Skin detergent, perfect for sensitive skin thanks to its hypoallergenic formula. Allow five minutes for the product to work.

Washing

Now it’s time to throw the costume in the washing machine. Be sure to follow the temperature indicated on the care instructions, which can be found on the label sewn into the garment. Too high a temperature can cause the costume to shrink. If you want to increase the washing power, you can use a stain remover such as Persil® Power-Caps® 2in1 Stain Fighter in capsule form or Persil® Power-Liquid® Stain Fighter in liquid form.

Check the result and repeat the washing process

At the end of the wash cycle, inspect the stain thoroughly. If you still find some evidence of the face paint, it is best to soak the costume in Persil liquid detergent and water for ten minutes. Follow the dosage instructions for hand washing. After soaking, another round in the washing machine should do the trick.
