How to Separate Laundry

How to sort and pretreat your laundry

Sorting laundry
Washing your laundry without first sorting it into different loads can result in dingy, damaged clothes. When sorting your laundry, consider the following:

  • Type of fabric: Do not wash delicates (like wool or silk) and heavier fabrics (like towels) together.
  • Washing temperature: Some fabrics shouldn't be washed in hot water while others should. Follow the care symbols on the garment labels, which will tell you at what temperature you can wash the fabric.
  • Color intensity (colored laundry only): Wash dark and intense colors (especially red and black garments) with similar colors, if possible. These colors can fade and dyes can ruin other clothes that are washed with them. Pay attention to the directions on the garment labels.

Pretreating laundry
Heavily soiled clothing and laundry should be washed immediately because recent stains are easier to remove than stains which have set in.

You can pre-treat stains with any Persil® ProClean® liquid detergent. Simply apply a little detergent to the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then wash.
